JoJo's Childcare is a green environment.
Although I have a driving licence I chose in 2008 to be car free. We travel on public transport or walk. This is great for the environment and also great for the children. Not only does it teach them about public transport in a hands on approach, it is also good exercise and means we are out, walking in the fresh air on a daily basis. We like to spend time outdoors in all weather, exploring and having fun.
The amount of rubbish thrown away by homes in the UK every day is enough to fill 190 Olympic sized swimming pools and weighs as much as 12,000 elephants!
We try to recycle as much as possible. By recycling we are helping to:
- re-use valuable materials again and again
- save energy and natural resources
- preserve environments all over the world
- reduce the amount we bury in landfill sites
- reduce our contribution to climate change
We try to buy as much local produce as possible for meals. By buying local products we are supporting sustainable small scale farming
and businesses which contribute to conserving and enhancing the
environment. We also only use free range eggs.
Buy local food and enjoy . . .
- fresh food that tastes better because it has travelled less distance
- boosting the local economy - £10 spent with a local food business generates £25 for the local area, compared with only £14 for the same amount spent in a supermarket
- good value for money - local vegetables and meat bought at markets are on average 30% cheaper than those from supermarkets
- spending less on packaging
- reducing the number of lorries on our roads - food is responsible for more lorries on our roads than any other commodity
- creating more jobs for local people
